Galeria JAK | Poznań 2026
In keeping with the exhibition’s title, Aneta Lewandowska’s works are created from materials found on the ground: leaves, twigs, and hair belonging to both the artist and her dog. These are resources that, at best, remain invisible to most, and at worst, are considered waste to be discarded—blown off the pavement, raked from a park path, vacuumed from the floor, or brushed off clothes.
This gathering requires attentiveness, a willingness to notice what we usually overlook, a sensitivity to the minor elements of daily life, and ultimately, the patience to work with them, sorting and organizing them into a larger structure that turns insignificant scraps into artworks that capture the public's attention. Sometimes, only a minimal intervention transforms elements of nature into cultural creations—stitched leaves become paintings, painted twig compositions turn into sculptures, and branches suspended in the gallery space are read as installations. The traditional boundary between nature and culture becomes blurred. We come to an art gallery to look at leaves and hair because we fail to notice them in our everyday surroundings.
Due to the materials used and their relationship with space, each of Lewandowska’s exhibitions is an ephemeral, one-off project. By their very nature, these organic works are fragile and transient, changing even over the course of a few months. Placing them in galleries with different characters and layouts creates a new way of experiencing and interpreting the same projects each time.
